Why Art?

In response to my cousin’s question, “Why do YOU make art?” …

@khart_art good question! not sure entirely.. but keep reading for thoughts!

…i suppose Love, in the pursuit of meaning, something we might call Beauty as it reflects some objective Truth…

through subjects and their highly personal perspectives that have value because they proceed with color, texture, and a form that takes on flesh…

for the very fact that a run on sentence can and ought to be allowed because its open-ended nature reflects Mystery as we can experience and express it in these shackles of existential limits …

in other words, transcendence of the known in pursuit of the fully realized, the ‘essential’ as I might call it…

“in service of the mind” but not entirely exclusive to the intellectual realm…

as abstraction merges with concrete and the potential becomes actual …

in short, in the pursuit of relationship with Being, Essence, through through highly intentional relationships with other beings who and that contain a sustained reflection of that Essence albeit in a sort of fractured mirror of sorts…

in the daily practice of the habit of being, habit of art, habitus as Maritain explains…

and because it makes me smile, cry, recoil in fear, and shout with joy when I see it for the first time again and again and wonder at how it could possibly continue to unfold in such a marvelous way…
